SOLSC 3/4/14 - The Antics of our Critter Friends

We are blessed to live in the woods and have an abundance of wildlife that like to visit us daily and they give us reason to laugh and smile each time they venture through our yard.

There has been an overwhelming quantity of deer for the past couple of years.  In fact, last year there were two sets of twins and one set of triplets born.  We have watched them grow and mature and yet, they still love to romp and play as they graze across the yard.



Last week we had several loads of mulch delivered and because the weather has been so difficult, it has not gotten spread yet.  The other morning when Max and I were going for our walk, there were several deer on the top of the mulch pile, munching away at whatever they could find.  They stood their ground and just watched us walk past and promptly went back to see what else they could forage.





Several days later, I looked out the window to discover this little one munching away on the cedar tree.  The tree isn't much bigger than that deer and she was definitely enjoying whatever morsels she could find.









Usually Max sleeps in and doesn't need to go out first thing in the morning before the dawn breaks, but this morning he needed to go take care of business.  I turned on the porch light and let him out.  I noticed this little bird perched on the rafter.  At first I couldn't tell what kind of bird, but later discovered that it was a female cardinal.  I must have frightened her, because her eyes got really big, but she didn't fly away.  The picture isn't very clear as I had to take it through the window, but you can see the nest right beside to her.  That's a chickadee nest that was built last year.  I'm not sure if she is eyeing it or if it gives her some additional shelter.  This morning (when the temps were 7 degrees) she was all puffed up and trying to stay warm.

Although, we enjoy having our critter friends visit,  I have learned that I don't plant flowers or veggies that are within there reach - they seem to think whatever is in our yard is for them.

    Even if you hadn't posted a pic, this line was very "deer" to me

SOL 18/31 - The Realtor's Came Yesterday

Yesterday, the realtor's came to look at our house.  Our realtor only brings his own people thru, so it wasn't too bad.  Max slept thru most of it until they went upstairs where he was sleeping.  He barked briefly, came downstairs, got petted and pampered a little.  They walked thru the house, in the bedroom, up the stairs, down the stairs, looked things over, asked a few questions and 15 minutes later out the door they went. Our realtor told me he has had a couple of calls - one from a neighbor (being nosy) and another from a realtor who said this house is exactly what his clients are looking for, but they had just left the day before it was listed.  But could they put in an offer sight unseen?  Really???  Is this just a realtor's ploy to make us feel good or is it real?  No offer yet, but who knows.  It could happen. Tuesday SOL 10/23/12 - Mr. Pockets goes to school

Last week there was an article in our local newspaper that I found fascinating and wanted to share it with you.  This is a story about a dog who listens as children read out loud.  It's a new program in our school district and I'm proud that our district is using this innovative program to help students learn. Animals are so loving, caring and accepting, and the students love to have someone that they can read to and to be loved unconditionally. Tuesday SOL - 9/25/12 - A New Beginning for a Special Couple

Several weeks ago we were invited to a wedding for two very dear friends.  What a special occasion it was!  This is the second marriage for both of them and they are in their early 70's.  But, before telling you about the wedding, you need to know "the rest of the story". Jeannie's husband died about 10 years ago from heart related problems.  Several years after his death, she was involved in a terrible automobile accident and was never expected to walk again.  But through sheer determination (and the help of God) she walks without the aid of crutches.  At this point she really didn't have God in her life and I'm not sure at what point she found God (or more than likely, God found her).  She always asked God to find her that special man who had faith, was kind, had a great sense of humor and who loved her.
