March SOL 1/31 - A little about Me

Image
As we begin this journey thru the March SOL Challenge, here's a little about me: I Am.... 1.  A Child of God 2.  A wife to Len (you'll learn more about him this month) 3.  A daughter and sister 4.  A mother and grandmother (you already know about Michelle & the girls, but there will be more to share) 5.  A writer (although I never thought of myself as a writer, this will be my 6th year of writing slices) 6.  A crafter (I love to make greeting cards and scrapbook, crochet and have tried my hand at quilting and whatever else strikes my fancy) 7.  A reader (mostly mysteries, historical and Christian books, but I'm always looking for recommendations) 8.  A volunteer (I enjoy helping others) 9.  A mentor (working with 3rd graders) 10. A traveler (planning on doing more this year) 11. Mother of Max, our dog (he'll be sharing some slices this month) 12. Not a certified, trained teacher, but a teacher none the less 13. A Stephen...

Tuesday SOL - 2/28/17 - More Anticipations

Image
Earlier this month I wrote about anticipations and then followed up with one coming to fruition.  Today's slice is about the other anticipation of vacationing in California. We thought a break during the winter months in Arkansas would be just what we needed - some place warm and sunny. (However, the week we went, it was warmer in Arkansas!) We had been to Florida many times and thought we venture to a different part of the country.  This time heading West to sunny, warm California..... We left Arkansas on a sunny and potentially hot day for early February to arrive in Sacramento with some puffy cloudy and sun, turning the sprinkles by the time we got the rental car.  We headed southeast towards Angels Camp with a few clouds, but more sun following us.  Possibilities of warmth were in our thoughts. The forecast was not looking good for most of the week, but Saturday and Sunday were beautiful.  We headed to Big Trees State Park with the huge sequoias. ...

Tuesday SOL 2/21/17 - Receiving More JOY over the weekend

Image
Michelle called at the end of January checking to see if we would be home over President's Day weekend.  My reply was yes and why? Well, since they had Friday and Monday off, would we like to have some company.  My reply - an Outstanding YES! So last Friday they arose early (4:00 a.m. ish) and arrived at our home around 2:30 p.m. for a fun filled, fast paced (for us), slow paced (for them) weekend. The girls were ready to be out of the car and do SOMETHING.  We were having friends over for dinner to celebrate Grandma Carol's birthday.  She has become a surrogate grandma to the girls since she has no grandkids of her own.  The girls got busy in my craft room making her cards.  They loved checking out all of my cards and gadgets and proceeded to try their hands at using an embosser and stamps galore.  So many to choose from.  They finished their master pieces and couldn't wait from Grandma Carol to show up.  She, of course, was delighte...

Tuesday SOL 2/14/17 - Anticipation Over - Project Completed

Image
Two weeks ago I wrote about several things that I was anticipating.  Both are completed, but I'll only share one today and leave the other for later. When we moved into our home a year and half ago, we always fought the door entering the kitchen from the garage.  The refrigerator is huge and stuck out quite far.  The door swings inwards and missed the refrigerator by inches.  After much thought and talk with our handyman, we decided to remove a cabinet and move the refrigerator about 36 inches and then install two floor to ceiling pantry cabinets.  Our handyman told us that he works with a cabinet maker who would make the cabinets look like they always been there and match our existing cabinets. The space was measured, the cabinets designed, the stain and profile matched.  It was a go at the end of December.  Two to three weeks, we were told.  Patience is the name of the game.  We wanted them finished before we went on vacation la...
