March 2018 SOLSC - 17/31 - Seventeen Reasons to Give Thanks

What better day than St. Patrick's Day to make a list of 17 reasons for thanksgiving? 1.  A wonderful husband who takes care of me, cooks for me, helps me with my slices, encourages me - the list could go on forever. 2.  A great son and daughter-in-law, an equally great daughter and son-in-law and two precious granddaughters - they all bring much joy and happiness into our lives. 3.  Good health 4.  Friends who support and are always available.  Our prayer group of four who share our concerns and problems and build each other up with prayer. 5.  Great home cooked meals - just tell Hubby what I want for that night and Voila it appears! 6.  Signs of spring all around - new growth, new birth, colors spewing out of the brown and cold earth. 7.  A clean car - it's white again! 8.  Warmer temperatures - it was 73 yesterday 9.  A good check up for Hubby from the Doctor 10.  A great vacation and safe ...

SOL 11/28/17 - Thankful

They have access to phones to call home, newspapers to read, cards to play, TV to watch and a delicious meal to leisurely enjoy.  Plus Santa brings present for each of them to enjoy.  This year Santa brought some drones, min...

Tuesday SOL 11/29/16 - A Wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend

This year we celebrated Thanksgiving with a group of 40 men and women recruits from Great Lakes Naval Base along with our family.  What an awesome way to spend a special day! This is the 2nd year that we have participated in this special event hosted by the Sue H. Dufern Memorial Servicemen's Fund.  Our son and daughter-in-law are involved with this fund (Sue was our DIL's aunt who passed away).  This was the 10th year that this Fund has hosted approximately 100 servicemen and women each year.  This year there were only 40 recruits available. The bus picked them up at 9:30 and brought them to Lindy's Restaurant in Waconda.  They marched a couple of blocks to the restaurant and were totally unprepared for what awaited them.  The restaurant closes it's doors for the day to welcome these young people.  They arrived to a round of applause and good wishes.  Candy was placed on all tables, phones were made available for calls to family and friend...
