March 2018 SOLSC - 24/31 - Back to the Question Jar

The Question Jar has been a life saver during this March Challenge.  Not only has it made me draw from many memories, but I'm trying to give my kids and granddaughters a history that they can look back on and see where they've come from. Today's question: What is the most wonderful thing that ever happened to you? Only one?  Well, I guess it depends upon where I am in my life. Being blessed with caring, loving parents who raised me to be who I am today.  Even though they are no longer with us here on Earth, I feel their presence every day. Meeting the wonderful man, who is my husband, friend, encourager, be-all, do-all.  I don't know how I would handle life without him being by my side. Birthing two wonderful children, Scott & Michelle, and raising them to become the people they are today.  They brighten each day. Being blessed with twin granddaughters, watching them grow and develop. Retiring after almost 50 years of working. ...

Tuesday SOL 11/8/16 - Being Thankful

Image
Each day I'm thankful for all the blessing that I receive, but I've been really thinking about how much I take for granted.  So today, my slice is about those little things. I'm thankful for: My family and friends (of course) Our dog, Max (who can be such a nuciance, but what will I do when he's gone) My church and the family that I have acquired over the years God - who has accepted me as His Child and for His daily forgiveness My eyesight to see the wonders around me My ears to hear My hands that give me the ability to work and play My feet that allow me to walk My body that functions (most of the time) allowing me to do what I want and need to do My brain that helps me comprehend, learn, read,,, My compassion to help others Our home and all the "things" that we can't live without Hot and cold running water A gas stove to cook on Heat/Air conditioning to make life comfortable A dishwasher, washer and dryer A refrigerator to keep f...

SOL 30/31 - Changing Our Attitude to look at the bright side of things

Image
I think there are times in all of our lives when we only see the negative in what is happening in and around us.  I found this quote this morning when I was looking for my thought for the day for Michelle.  It's a very appropriate thought regarding my slicing. I look at my surroundings, at people, at life's experiences differently.  My attitude isn't always "good", it isn't always "positive", but when writing slices, I try to look for the good, the positive, the building up, the blessings.  So I challenge you today, to look for all the beauty around us - the brown grass turning green, the gray skys turning sunny, the rain making the flowers grow, the cocoon changing to a beautiful butterfly, ranting turning to listening, the baby's crying turning to cooing and smiles - the list is endless.  It's up to each of us to look for that change.

Tuesday SOL 11/24/15 - Every Day is A Thanksgiving Day

Image
Every Day SHOULD be a Day of Thanks! We are so blessed! We have family and friends We have good health We have a place to rest our heads We have food to grace our tables We live in a great country The list is endless and yet, We tend to forget and take for granted all the little things that we have been blessed with. Last Thursday I was blessed to be able to hand out Thanksgiving food baskets to a number of needy families.  They were so appreciative for just one meal of food and a prayer.  This Thursday, I'm joining our family in spending a day with 100 sailors who will be finishing their basic training and couldn't go home for the holiday. I pray that you and your families will be blessed on this Thanksgiving (and every day) and that you will be able to share this blessing with others.

SOLSC 3/11/14 - Being there for a Friend

Image
I got an e-mail from a member of our small group asking for prayers.  Her husband was hospitalized and undergoing tests.  He was experiencing heart rhythm problems.  I promptly sent her an e-mail back telling her that both of them were in our prayers and asking if she wanted me to sit with her while she waited.  I didn't get a response back that day, but heard that he was doing better. This morning there was an e-mail waiting for me simply saying "Yes, I'll call you later."  I didn't hear anything and finally called her to find out what was happening.  She said they were waiting for someone to take him to the OR for an angiogram and could I come in around 1:00.  I told her I'd be there.  When I arrived, they were still waiting.  So we chatted and talked about when my hubby had his heart attack and all that transpired.  They were both very concerned that the blockage was severe and couldn't be taken care of with stints.  I trie...

11/11/2011 - Veteran's Day

Image
A day to remember all of those men and women who have served and fought to defend this great nation to keep us free.  I give thanks to those in our family who served - my Dad, my husband, my son, my brother.  We all need to give thanks to all veterans each day - not just one day a year. Ten years ago today, Jon proposed to Michelle.  We are so thankful to have him in our family. Ten years ago, Max was born - Happy Birthday to Max!  We have had him for 9 wonderful years and he has been a great addition to our family. We have many blessings and these are only a few.
