My Hubby  My Children My Granddaughters My Parents My Many friends My Prayer Group My Church Family This community of writers The people who I come in contact with each day The volunteers at the Center of Hope Max, our faithful pooch And then, there are the "things" that make my life easier & enjoyable Our home Food to eat and share Air conditioning & fans Vehicles to take us place Washer, dryer & dishwasher Caller ID Our backyard critters Money in the bank to pay the bills Music Crafts Books Memories The list is endless.  God has blessed me and continues to bless me each day.  What people/things are you grateful for today?

Tuesday SOLSC - 11/5/13 - Mission Trip to Guatemala - #2 - The Build

Image
Our work site was about 50 minutes from Panajahcel. Our driver stopped along side of the busy highway and we got out looking around to see where we'd be building.  Our Habitat coordinator pointed up the hill (?) and so we started climbing up, up and up.  The path was at about a 45 degree angle, leveling off and them another 20 degree angle for about 1/8 of a mile upward.  I thought I was in fairly good shape, but I was gasping for air when we arrived at the work site.  The altitude was about a mile above sea level.  They told us we would be starting from scratch and this is what we saw - a flat area with string outlining the perimeter of the house - approximately 10' wide by 20' long with a 3' x 5' section off the back for the bathroom. We had an opening ceremony, introducing the masons, the family and us.  The family spoke in a Mayan dialect and had to be interpreted into Spanish and then to English.  Thanks and praise to God was foremost in...

Tuesday SOLSC - 10/29/13 - Mission Trip to Guatemala - #1

Image
Before I begin my adventure, I will begin as our hosts did in Guatemala.  Thank you, Lord, for watching over us and blessing us every day. Our group of seven left Fayetteville in the early morning hours before sunrise amidst lightening and low lying clouds.  Fortunately there was no delay and we were above the clouds quickly to see the sun rise through the clouds.  Off to Houston to meet my brother and then for our flight to Guatemala City.  Upon our arrival in Guatemala City, we met another member of our group and then the Habitat people.  People waiting, people talking, people shouting, noise abounded at this busy airport.  I think because it is a smaller and more congested airport, it seemed much louder, noisier and busier.  We were directed through the crowds into the pick up area where we put luggage in the van and were on our way into the traffic of the city.  Horns honking, cars, buses, vans, moving in and out from one lane to the next a...

Tuesday SOLSC 7/30/13 - Showers

Image
I didn't plan on writing today, since we got back late yesterday from IL, but as I stood in the shower this morning, I started thinking about "Showers". I was "Showered" with the warm water rolling down my body. The earth is being quenched this morning with a "Shower" of gentle rain. Our son and future daughter were "Showered" with many gifts and friendship this past weekend. I was "Showered" with hugs and kisses from my granddaughters.                                                   God "Showers" me daily with His blessings.

Tuesday SOL - 1/29/13 - In Remembrance

Image
February 2nd will be 24 years.  How can it be?  Where did the time go? Twenty-four years ago on Feb. 2nd, my Mom passed away after five long years of battling cancer.  Even after all this time, I miss her.  It seems like only yesterday that I was talking to her on the phone, sharing what was going on with the kids, hearing the joy in her voice as she shared what she had been doing that week. She was a doer.  She cared about everyone and reached out to those who were in need.  Even as she suffered through the pain of surgery, chemotherapy, lack of energy, she never complained and always had something good to say.  Even on her death bed, she kept on giving.  A comforting word, a squeeze from her hand, a smile, words saying that everything would be all right. I remember how strong her faith was - knowing that no matter what God was with her every moment of every day.  I grew through her in my faith.  I only hope that I can live as...
