The Forgotten - David Baldacci

Goodreads Summary: " In Paradise, nothing is what it seems... Army Special Agent John Puller is the best there is. A combat veteran, Puller is the man the U.S. Army relies on to investigate the toughest crimes facing the nation. Now he has a new case-but this time, the crime is personal: His aunt has been found dead in Paradise, Florida. A picture-perfect town on Florida's Gulf Coast, Paradise thrives on the wealthy tourists and retirees drawn to its gorgeous weather and beaches. The local police have ruled his aunt's death an unfortunate, tragic accident. But just before she died, she mailed a letter to Puller's father, telling him that beneath its beautiful veneer, Paradise is not all it seems to be. What Puller finds convinces him that his aunt's death was no accident . . . and that the palm trees and sandy beaches of Paradise may hide a conspiracy so shocking that some will go to unthinkable lengths to make sure the truth is never revealed." The Hit - David Baldacci

Will Robie is a master of killing. A highly skilled assassin, Robie is the man the U.S. government calls on to eliminate the worst of the worst-enemies of the state, monsters committed to harming untold numbers of innocent victims. No one else can match Robie's talents as a hitman...no one, except Jessica Reel. A fellow assassin, equally professional and dangerous, Reel is every bit as lethal as Robie. And now, she's gone rogue, turning her gun sights on other members of their agency. To stop one of their own, the government looks again to Will Robie. His mission: bring in Reel, dead or alive. Only a killer can catch another killer, they tell him. But as Robie pursues Reel, he quickly finds that there is more to her betrayal than meets the eye. Her attacks on the agency conceal a larger threat, a threat that could send shockwaves through the U.S. government and around the world. Another excellent, face paced, exciting read.  Love this author!

Zero Day by David Baldacci

Goodreads summary:  " War hero John Puller is known to be the top investigator in the US Army’s CID. So when a family with military connections is brutally murdered in a remote area of West Virginia, Puller is called to investigate, and soon suspects the case has wider implications. As the body count rises he teams up with local homicide detective Samantha Cole. As the web of deceit is revealed, it quickly becomes apparent that there’s much more to this case than they had first thought. It is an investigation where nothing is as it seems, and nothing can be taken at face value. " Another fast past, excellent read by Baldacci.  I always enjoy his books. Finished:  December 20, 2014

Tuesday SOLSC - 10/8/13 - My Mixed Feelings This Week

Image
For the past nine months I've been preparing and planning for an adventure.  Something I've never done before.  Something that will help those in need.  Something that will be enjoyable and yet consist of manual labor. I'm going to Guatemala on a mission/build trip with Thrivent Build & Habitat for Humanity! I have many different feelings going on in my mind. I'm excited I'm apprehensive  Then there's the anxiety  And, the anticipation of what the week will bring   I've gotten all my vaccinations and my passport, made travel arrangements, made my lists of what to pack, started pulling things out to pack, taking care of the little details that need to be arranged.  All of the hotels and arrangements in Guatemala are taken care of, so that part is easy. I am going with 12 other people of all ages, but most of us are in our 60's - yikes can we really handle digging trenches, hauling blocks, making mortar or will we be at the end o...

Hell's Corner by David Baldacci

Hell's Corner is a spy mystery taking place in Washington, DC.  Baldacci once again brings back Oliver Stone (formerly know as John Carr, an assassin for the US) and members of "The Camel Club" to solve a bombing in Lafayette Park which is directly across the street from the White House.  After many twists and turns, the Russians seemed to be the obvious culprits, but the plot thickened and a "good" US spy turned into a mole for Mexico for lots of money. Baldacci kept me turning the pages, even though at times the things that took place were not believable.  But, who know when you get 3 or 4 different government agencies involved in solving a crime.  The right hand doesn't know what the left is doing and there is no sharing information between agencies.  If it's even remotely true, it is understandable why our country is in the state it is. Good book - I always enjoy reading Baldacci. Read:  April/May, 2011
