Tuesday SOL - 1/29/13 - In Remembrance

Image
February 2nd will be 24 years.  How can it be?  Where did the time go? Twenty-four years ago on Feb. 2nd, my Mom passed away after five long years of battling cancer.  Even after all this time, I miss her.  It seems like only yesterday that I was talking to her on the phone, sharing what was going on with the kids, hearing the joy in her voice as she shared what she had been doing that week. She was a doer.  She cared about everyone and reached out to those who were in need.  Even as she suffered through the pain of surgery, chemotherapy, lack of energy, she never complained and always had something good to say.  Even on her death bed, she kept on giving.  A comforting word, a squeeze from her hand, a smile, words saying that everything would be all right. I remember how strong her faith was - knowing that no matter what God was with her every moment of every day.  I grew through her in my faith.  I only hope that I can live as...

11/22/63 by Stephen King

Goodreads summary:  "If you had the chance to change the course of history, would you? Would the consequences be what you hoped? Jake Epping 35 teaches high school English in Lisbon Falls, Maine, and cries reading the brain-damaged janitor's story of childhood Halloween massacre by their drunken father. On his deathbed, pal Al divulges a secret portal to 1958 in his diner back pantry, and enlists Jake to prevent the 11/22/1963 Dallas assassination of American President John F. Kennedy. Under the alias George Amberson, our hero joins the cigarette-hazed full-flavored world of Elvis rock n roll, Negro discrimination, and freeway gas guzzlers without seat belts. Will Jake lurk in impoverished immigrant slums beside troubled loner Lee Harvey Oswald, or share small-town friendliness with beautiful high school librarian Sadie Dunhill, the love of his life?" I have not been a fan of Stephen King, but this book was recommended and sounded much different from his othe...

Tuesday SOL 1/22/13 - A Walk in the fog

Image
The fog was heavy on this morning in November, as Max and I went for our walk. Turning back to look at our house, it was eerily ensconced in the fog. As we started up the hill, I turned back and saw the sun trying to break thru. The fog wasn't quite ready to give up yet, but the trees were starting to shimmer with the sun reflecting through their branches. As the sun continued to rise over the lake, the fog was quickly disappearing. And as we approached the top of the hill, we could see our shadows. But turning around, the fog was following us. And as turned around and headed back home, the sunshine and clear skies appeared.  And so began another beautiful day in the Ozarks.

Tuesday SOL - 1/8/13 - OLW - Grateful

Image
We were traveling the last two Tuesdays and I didn't get to write, so I thought I'd share my OLW this week.    During the month of November, I made a list of 30 things that I was thankful for and so the word Grateful seemed appropriate to continue for my 2013 OLW. This week, I'm grateful for my husband's carpentry abilities.  He had created many things for me and for the kids.  During December he built a cabinet that holds our granddaughters' train top that they received from Santa.  He managed to put it all together in only a few weeks time and even though he said it wasn't his "best" work, he did a great job and the girls (along with Mommy & Daddy) were delighted.  It will be a cabinet that will last long after the train phase has worn off. Not only did he complete the train cabinet, but also finished a buffet table with wine rack for our son and his fiance.  Now if I could only get him to finish the top shelves of my buffet table.... Ca...

Books I've read in 2012 and places they have taken me

I surprised myself when I added up how many books I've read this past year and it was interesting to find how many different places they have taken me.  I have tried to read different genres and add some new authors to my list.  The statistics are: 77 books read 19 States 8 Countries My books have taken me to Canada, England, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan and Thailand.  In the US, I visited California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Washington, D.C.  Some of these states were visited in many different novels. So what will my challenge be this year.  How many books, how many different states and countries can I visit? I do love to read and look forward to expanding my author base and genre style.  Could I possibly make 100 in 2013?  I'm starting off with 11/22/63 by Stephen King...
