When searching thru Sandra's library, I found an author that I had never read.  His writing is along the same line as John Grisham and this was an excellent lawyer mystery.  I liked his writing because the characters he created were believable and dealt with many different emotions - not only with their client, but also in their own lives.  I have often wondered if most defense attorneys just "go thru the motions" of defending their clients and don't believe that they are innocent.  How many times have innocent people been convicted due to "circumstantial" evidence?  And, how many people have been freed because of ruthless defense attorneys?  The plot seemed to thicken with every turn of a page.   I'm looking forward to reading more of his books (Sandra has at least 3 or 4 more). This book has been on my shelf for several years and I decided it was time to tackle this "huge" epic  novel.  It takes place in the 1100's (which is not an era that I have read about), but in reading it, the author appears to take liberty with adding things from the 20th century.  It was very detailed and reminded me of Michener's writing.  The characters he created and their relationships kept the story moving.  It was interesting to learn how the churches of that era were created.  The architectural drawings were on stone.  The vision that Tom Builder and his stepson, Jack, had was unbelievable.  Follet made these buildings come to life.  The book also detailed life in a monastery and the "politics" that went on during that era. A good read, even though it seemed to take me forever.  Follet has several other "epic" novels which I will read - some day! Read - February/March, 2011

I always enjoy books by Nicholas Sparks.  He writes a wonderful story that you can relate to.  "The Choice" makes me think about all of the different choices I have made in my life.  Some good, some not so good. The way it was written kept me wondering what the next choice would be. How can we make a decision between life and death?  I just try to put everything into God's hand, knowing He will give the right direction.  A very moving book. Read - March, 2011
