Hell's Corner by David Baldacci

Hell's Corner is a spy mystery taking place in Washington, DC.  Baldacci once again brings back Oliver Stone (formerly know as John Carr, an assassin for the US) and members of "The Camel Club" to solve a bombing in Lafayette Park which is directly across the street from the White House.  After many twists and turns, the Russians seemed to be the obvious culprits, but the plot thickened and a "good" US spy turned into a mole for Mexico for lots of money.

Baldacci kept me turning the pages, even though at times the things that took place were not believable.  But, who know when you get 3 or 4 different government agencies involved in solving a crime.  The right hand doesn't know what the left is doing and there is no sharing information between agencies.  If it's even remotely true, it is understandable why our country is in the state it is.

Good book - I always enjoy reading Baldacci.

SOL 18/31 - The Realtor's Came Yesterday

Yesterday, the realtor's came to look at our house.  Our realtor only brings his own people thru, so it wasn't too bad.  Max slept thru most of it until they went upstairs where he was sleeping.  He barked briefly, came downstairs, got petted and pampered a little.  They walked thru the house, in the bedroom, up the stairs, down the stairs, looked things over, asked a few questions and 15 minutes later out the door they went. Our realtor told me he has had a couple of calls - one from a neighbor (being nosy) and another from a realtor who said this house is exactly what his clients are looking for, but they had just left the day before it was listed.  But could they put in an offer sight unseen?  Really???  Is this just a realtor's ploy to make us feel good or is it real?  No offer yet, but who knows.  It could happen. I breathed a sigh of relief.  Max looked at me as if to say "Is that it?  Can I go back to sleep now?". ...

Tuesday SOL 10/23/12 - Mr. Pockets goes to school

Last week there was an article in our local newspaper that I found fascinating and wanted to share it with you.  This is a story about a dog who listens as children read out loud.  It's a new program in our school district and I'm proud that our district is using this innovative program to help students learn. Animals are so loving, caring and accepting, and the students love to have someone that they can read to and to be loved unconditionally.
