Ken Follet - The Pillars of the Earth

This book has been on my shelf for several years and I decided it was time to tackle this "huge" epic  novel.  It takes place in the 1100's (which is not an era that I have read about), but in reading it, the author appears to take liberty with adding things from the 20th century.  It was very detailed and reminded me of Michener's writing.  The characters he created and their relationships kept the story moving.  It was interesting to learn how the churches of that era were created.  The architectural drawings were on stone.  The vision that Tom Builder and his stepson, Jack, had was unbelievable.  Follet made these buildings come to life.  The book also detailed life in a monastery and the "politics" that went on during that era.

A good read, even though it seemed to take me forever.  Follet has several other "epic" novels which I will read - some day!

SOL 18/31 - The Realtor's Came Yesterday

Yesterday, the realtor's came to look at our house.  Our realtor only brings his own people thru, so it wasn't too bad.  Max slept thru most of it until they went upstairs where he was sleeping.  He barked briefly, came downstairs, got petted and pampered a little.  They walked thru the house, in the bedroom, up the stairs, down the stairs, looked things over, asked a few questions and 15 minutes later out the door they went. Our realtor told me he has had a couple of calls - one from a neighbor (being nosy) and another from a realtor who said this house is exactly what his clients are looking for, but they had just left the day before it was listed.  But could they put in an offer sight unseen?  Really???  Is this just a realtor's ploy to make us feel good or is it real?  No offer yet, but who knows.  It could happen. I breathed a sigh of relief.  Max looked at me as if to say "Is that it?  Can I go back to sleep now?". ...

Tuesday SOL 10/23/12 - Mr. Pockets goes to school

Last week there was an article in our local newspaper that I found fascinating and wanted to share it with you.  This is a story about a dog who listens as children read out loud.  It's a new program in our school district and I'm proud that our district is using this innovative program to help students learn. Animals are so loving, caring and accepting, and the students love to have someone that they can read to and to be loved unconditionally.
