SOL #11 – 3/11/12 Sunday – My Favorite Day

The beginning of a new week – a time to put everything from last week behind me and start fresh.  Going to church, having fellowship with friends, knowing that I’m good with God.

And that’s just the morning!  The rest of the day is mine

to do what I want - no chores around the house
I can read
            I can crochet
                        I can scrapbook
                                    I can make cards
I can read & write SOLs
I can do nothing at all!

But then, the best part of the day

We get to SKYPE with our twin granddaughters!!!

We live 9 hours away from them and only get to visit about every six weeks (unless I can find another excuse to head north).  So Skype is my life saver.

I love when the screen comes to life with Michelle holding M & P.  The expressions on their faces when they see me and then Grandpa comes into the picture and M exclaims Pawka.  Max comes down the stairs – both M & P yell – Max!!!!!  He does some tricks and they are thrilled.  We talk and, with Mamma’s encouragement, they say words that they learned the past week.  We sing some songs and do some actions.  I have a bunny and a bear that keeps them occupied for a few moments.  And all too soon they start getting antsy and M and P say “all done” .  Michelle lets them down and they are on the loose.

It’s time to close – they throw kisses and wave bye-bye.

It’s hard to hit that disconnect button, but I’ve snapped a couple of pictures and will print them.

Until next Sunday, when we’ll once again get to Skype.

  1. Your Sundays sound lovely. I can identify with this piece as both of our children are in other states. When and if the grandchildren do arrive, I expect like you, we will be grateful for technology to keep us close to them. Enjoy this day.

  2. Love your Sunday reflection and the best part of your day! I know it means so much to you to Skype but I'm so glad you captured in words what the experience is like for you and Dad, I mean Pawka. (Grandpa is a bit tricky to say!) "See" you later today!

  3. I love my Sundays too. Especially going to church and feeling refreshed and empowered to start a new week! It sounds like you have an awesome Sunday. Skype is the best.

  4. Oh Judy, I know exactly what you mean!!! Every Sunday my sister and I facetime my niece and like you can't wait for each Sunday afternoon to "see" her... she lives in NY. Just like when she was little, I give her kisses and feel like she's sitting there with us. The funny thing is I talk to her almost everyday, but when we facetime, it's so such better!!!

  5. I love it! Your post has variety, priority, joy and grandchildren. Sundays and the way you talk about them are the best.

  8. Judy - so glad that technology is helping bridge the miles between you and those precious girls!
    Happy Sunday!

  9. Skype is a godsend for far-flung families. I had the nerve to move 2000 miles away from my family, and then get married out here and produce a gorgeous girl child (with a little boy on the way) so far away from home. My parents can't make it out over once a year, so Skype is essential for them to see their first grandchild. I'm glad that your family gets to do the same.
