SOL #16 – 3/16/12 Hands

Have you ever truly looked at your hands or do you, like me, take them for granted?

My hands can …

Type these words
Open or close a door
Change a baby’s diaper
Give a pat on the back
Applaud in thanks & praise
Play the piano
Hold a book
Make a card
Hold a child’s hand
Prepare the soil for plants
Wave hello or goodby
Give comfort
Rub my hubby’s back
Fold together to pray

They can look and feel…

Rough and red
Soft and smooth
Ache from arthritis
Swollen
Pretty with fresh nail polish
Mis-shaped from years of using them

These hands…

Are a gift from God to be used in service to others

  1. Beautiful poem - hands are something we take for granted. Yet they do so much for us! Kissing my hands today to say thanks!

  2. You never stop to think about this until you have one injured which doesn't allow you to carry on with your life. Thanks for noticing all hands do and putting it together in such a beautiful poem. Interesting that typing the words was listed first. Hmmm. . .

  3. Judy so beautiful and so true! I think we do take for granted things that just are there for us...never thinking sometimes that they may not be.

  4. I love the look of your hands in contrast as to how they are used. Thank you.

  5. It's nice to reflect on all the things our hands are able to do for others. But I'll bet (whoops, I don't bet) that if you could not use your hands, your eyes and mouth would take over the necessary comforting of others.

  6. I like how you showed different perspectives on purposes and appearances... Thanks for posting!
