SOL #19 Our Dogwoods

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been watching the dogwoods each day.  At first you could just see these little bumps up and down the branches.  Several days later, those bumps starts to open – just a little each day.  Until you can actually see a bloom – it has green petals and inside the petals there seems to be little beads.  By the next day, these green petals have turned to a yellowish green and have opened up even more.  And in no more than a week, poof, as if by magic, the dogwoods are in full bloom and, they have turned the beautiful shade of white.

We are blessed to have a multitude of dogwood trees on our property and as I stand on my back deck, I look out on a sea of white.  What beauty we will see for the next couple of weeks until the blossoms fade and fall to the ground.  The tree turns green until the fall when the red berries appear and it turns many shades of red.  What a gift God has given us!

  2. Our dogwoods in Tennessee are still in the just-barely-beginning to open stage. We are about to POOF! I agree that dogwoods are one of the most beautiful trees. I am thanking God for Spring. I hope it is a long one.

  4. So so beautiful. I too have been noticing the beautiful blooms that have arrived just breath taking! I just hope the blooms around here aren't too confused....the weather is unbelievable!

  5. You are so lucky to be able to see so many dogwoods. I think it is suspended snow in the woods. Beautiful! Ours have not started to open yet, I anticipate it every year.

  6. We don't have dogwood here in Maine...but what we do have is...drum roll...dogpoop. In the spring, the layers of snow melt, leaving all the accumulated dog poop from the 3 previous months lying right there on your lawn! I wish we had dogwood.
