SOL #2 – 3/2/12 What Will You Write About?

While driving to church last Sunday, I told my husband about Michelle’s (Literacy Learning Zone) challenge to write a SOL every day in March.  He snickered and said, “Gee, what will you write about?  You get up at 5:00 a.m. every day, exercise, read the newspaper while drinking a cup of coffee, work the jumble and crossword puzzles, take Max for a walk, work on the computer, read, clean, go to work two days a week, make cards or scrapbook.  And that’s the same every day of every week – what will you write about?"

Then he got concerned and said, “You won’t write about me, will you?”  Hmm, now that’s food for thought - I'm sure you'll learn more about him as the month progresses.  Now he keeps asking to see what I’ve written (I think I’ve got him scared!).

So that made me challenged all the more to make an effort to “find” something to write about other than my mundane, boring routine (according to Hubby).  Now that I’m challenged by two members of my family, I’ll really have to contemplate and reflect on what going on around me and getting ideas from each of your posts.

  1. I write about my husband a lot; makes for an interesting read. Keeps him on his toes, too. I say go for it. :)

  2. Dad is too funny! But as you will see because you are looking for things to write about the world around you begins whispering ideas in your ear. You become so much more aware of everything happening -- and I tend to have sticky notes around ready to scribble a thought! Hubby's (and Dad's) are a great resource for writing! I can't wait to read more! He is a quiet, sweet soul - there's nothing bad to say!

So, do you believe me now? Only one day down, the fear of going public is gone, and the community of writers have lifted you up - I'm smiling from ear to ear!

    Love you, Mom!

  3. You'll be surprised how much there is to write about everyday activities and conversations. I look forward to getting to know you and you hubby. I also hope that you will write about Michelle. I have got to know her well through her slices and comments, but it is always interesting to add one more perspective. I know that you know but I thought I'd say it anyway: Michelle is a gem. You'll be glad she convinced to join Slice of Life.

  4. Oh yes, husband, be afraid, very afraid. They don't realize that their every day life has lots of quirks and quips which make fun writing and reading. My post today is related to my husband, but only indirectly.
I too want to hear more of Michelle, so please share!

  5. Oh . . .I didn't think I could possibly become the subject of a slice! Maybe we should stick with Dad!!! :)

  6. Go ahead and write about the mundane stuff. Take the ordinary moments of your life and unfold them with detail. They'll become extraordinary when you do this. :)

  7. Notice the little things in life--the little things that make you happy. THe little things that tick you off. The little things that make you go hmmmm. Slicing is all about the little things.

I really like the simplicity of this slice, by the way...it's a true slice of life!

  8. Family memebers are the MOST fun to write about. (but only in a nice way!)

I love how much your daughter is supporting you. You raised a great kid!

  9. I said the exact thing your husband said to myself. What are you going to write about. It is such a great challenge. I can't wait to read more especially of your twin granddaughters. I'm sure you make quite the impact on them.

  10. I worry too that all I'll have to write about is school. Our nest is almost empty, our daughter is home but NEVER home, and the grandkids are 2 days drive away....even the dog is dead!
Sadly, some of my best stories are about my cat and the mouse infestation we suffered through this winter. There goes my pride!
