Tuesday SOL - 7/17/12 - A Reflection about my Mom

Even though it's a couple days early, I want to honor my Mom in today's slice.  Thursday (7/19) would have been her 94th birthday, but she passed on 23 years ago.  She was a remarkable woman - her life was not an easy one, but she always made the best of everything.  Her mother died at the early age of 33, leaving my Mom (14), her brother (12) and her sister (4).  During that era, it was natural for my Mom to quit school and take care of the house, her father and raise her siblings.  Mom never got past the 6th grade, but yet she was one of the wisest people that I know.

She always had a smile on her face and had compassion and love for everyone.  Her faith in God was her number one priority and God worked through her in everything she did.  She never complained about "how bad life" had been for her.  She accepted it, moved on and tried to make things better for her family and friends.

Even after several bouts with cancer and when she was ready to go to her final resting, she was a comfort.  She held my hand while I cried and comforted me with her soothing voice.

She was (is) a special person in my life.  Happy Birthday, Mom.  You're the Best!  I miss you!

    Grandma was an awesome inspiration to many! Never a complaint. Never a doubt. Never a worry from her. I can't believe it's been 23 years. Wherever does the time go? Yes, life goes on, but the beauty and memories live on forever and I thank you for allowing me the reminder of my beautiful grandmother. Wouldn't it be fun to sit around and talk with her again? I can picture her smiling and laughing. Thanks for the precious memories.

    Oh my. I hadn't expected to cry today. Thank you for sharing the memories of your mother. I started to cry when I saw who your daughter is. Congratulations on being a grandmother.
    I was so touched that even in your mothers illness, she was a comfort to you as she held your hand as you cried.

    I struggled through writing one of my own blogs today. I didn't expect to struggle to get through reading a blog today. It's been an emotional week! Lots of reminiscing. Thank you for sharing a little bit about your mom. What a wonderful person. Happy Birthday to your mom!

    It's so beautiful that she was comforting you at the end of her time. That's a mother's love...something special between a mother and her children that only she knows. This is a wonderful tribute to her! She sounds like quite a lady!

SOL 18/31 - The Realtor's Came Yesterday

Yesterday, the realtor's came to look at our house.  Our realtor only brings his own people thru, so it wasn't too bad.  Max slept thru most of it until they went upstairs where he was sleeping.  He barked briefly, came downstairs, got petted and pampered a little.  They walked thru the house, in the bedroom, up the stairs, down the stairs, looked things over, asked a few questions and 15 minutes later out the door they went. Our realtor told me he has had a couple of calls - one from a neighbor (being nosy) and another from a realtor who said this house is exactly what his clients are looking for, but they had just left the day before it was listed.  But could they put in an offer sight unseen?  Really???  Is this just a realtor's ploy to make us feel good or is it real?  No offer yet, but who knows.  It could happen. Tuesday SOL 10/23/12 - Mr. Pockets goes to school

Last week there was an article in our local newspaper that I found fascinating and wanted to share it with you.  This is a story about a dog who listens as children read out loud.  It's a new program in our school district and I'm proud that our district is using this innovative program to help students learn. Animals are so loving, caring and accepting, and the students love to have someone that they can read to and to be loved unconditionally. Tuesday SOL - 1/13/15 - Trying "To Do" Retired

Last week was my "first" week of RETIRED.  Humm.... just what does that mean? I can't say that it felt any different.  We just got back from being out of town for 10 days, so it was catch up time.  Picking up Max, unpacking, doing laundry, cleaning up the dead lady bugs that had accumulated on the floor, grocery shopping, mail...  The list seemed endless - retired???? Then a voice mail saying my aunt was in the hospital in Florida.  Many calls trying to figure out what was happening.  Many more calls checking up on her on a daily basis.  Thinks are improving. Now this week, things are slowing down, but how do I wrap my head around being retired?  How do I stop my brain from making my mental "to do list" of things that HAVE to be accomplished?  How do I decide what I REALLY want to do as opposed to what NEEDS to be done and when?  How do I answer people when they ask "what are you going to do now that you're retired?"
