Tuesday 8/6/13 - Deer Galore
As y'all know, we live in the country in the Ozarks and we have an abundance of wildlife, but this year we've been blessed (until they eat my flowers) with a virtual herd of deer. They love to graze across our front yard, thru the woods, around the back, down the drive, across the road and back again (all in the matter of a couple of hours!)
This year we have seen two sets of twins and a single. We generally only see the babies and Mommas, but this year we've have up to three button bucks. The other days, hubby was at the computer and looked out and three of the bucks were playing games, rubbing their heads on the ground, charging, backing up and charging again. It was fun to watch their antics.
Here's Momma feeding her babies with another looking.
The other day when Max and I took a walk, the babies were in the driveway, they stood their ground as Max sniffed in the air. We walked closer and closer, until they decided it was time to move and off they went.
They don't appear to be scared by humans and will stand their ground when we approach I truly believe that they think this is their property and we are the trespassers.
These two like to be close to one another. They usually lay back to back and can be seen playing and cleaning each others face.
I love watching them play and graze, but I have limited planting things because I know it won't be there very long.

This truly is a slice of your life! What an amazing place to live!
ReplyDeleteAmazing creatures! Love that they are hanging out and you may just be the intruder. Fun to watch and observe. Enjoy and don't plant anything too delicious!
ReplyDeleteM and P just woke up and I showed them the pictures on your blog.
ReplyDelete"Deer!" M responded. "Where's the daddy deer? And where's the momma deer by her babies?"
P was quiet and still trying to wake up, but like the pictures.
Love you Grammy!
Well, they certainly have made themselves at home, and you are a gracious host. I remember many summers in which my mother would race out of the house, broom in hand, yelling at the deer to go away and leave her beloved garden alone. Beautiful pictures, too.
ReplyDeleteWatching nature is one of my most favorite activities. I don't think I'd get much done in the house from all the time I'd be spending watching the deer. I love that they hang around long enough so you can get such great pictures of them.
