Tuesday SOL - 7/8/14 - Making Decisions

Hubby and I have been discussing it for a while, off and on for the past year.  The discussion of when is the right time to put our house on the market.  The discussion of should we sell or stay put for a while.  The discussion of which realtor should we talk to.  What do you think it's worth?  What do we need to do to make it a home that someone will want to buy?

A life changing decision.  Lots of apprehension.  Lots of looking forward.  One step at a time.

Last week we took the first step.  We called a realtor to give us a market evaluation.  He was in awe when he stepped in thru the front door.  We gave him the tour, answered his questions and waited for his "best guess".  He asked what price we were looking for and we told him.  He gave us a guess as to what his appraiser would give.  We were high (of course - don't we all think our home is worth more?).  We'll get the appraiser's number tomorrow.  Then we'll make a definite decision of whether to put it on the market or not.

How long will it be on the market before the right person comes along that falls in love with our home?  What's the least amount that we will accept for an offer?

And after that decision is made, then we have to see what our options are for moving.  We know we want to stay in this area, but are we prepared to downsize to a condo or town home, to live right next door to neighbors (we currently live in the country on 8 acres)?  Do we still want the responsibility of caring for a lawn and house in town?

So many decisions - life changing decisions.  Saying prayers, asking God for direction and guidance.  One step at a time.

    From my own experience, I think you'll know when the time feels good about this, Judy. Perhaps house-hunting will make you feel better, just imagining as you look for a new home. I've seen pics of your home, & it looks wonderful, can't imagine that someone will want it fast! It's hard, thinking good thoughts for you and your husband.

    You are wise to be thinking ahead. Slowly life and needs change and sometimes it is hard to recognize that and take action. Good luck on making your decisions.

    This is a big decision. Having moved several times I know how hard it is to make the choice. Luckily, you are not making it alone. I wish you the best as you move ahead.

    Giving up life on acreage is hard, it's a special thing to have space around you. It's a pros and cons kind of decision. You will know, and once the decision is made you wont look back, it will have been the right choice.

SOL 18/31 - The Realtor's Came Yesterday

Yesterday, the realtor's came to look at our house.  Our realtor only brings his own people thru, so it wasn't too bad.  Max slept thru most of it until they went upstairs where he was sleeping.  He barked briefly, came downstairs, got petted and pampered a little.  They walked thru the house, in the bedroom, up the stairs, down the stairs, looked things over, asked a few questions and 15 minutes later out the door they went. Our realtor told me he has had a couple of calls - one from a neighbor (being nosy) and another from a realtor who said this house is exactly what his clients are looking for, but they had just left the day before it was listed.  But could they put in an offer sight unseen?  Really???  Is this just a realtor's ploy to make us feel good or is it real?  No offer yet, but who knows.  It could happen. Tuesday SOL 10/23/12 - Mr. Pockets goes to school

Last week there was an article in our local newspaper that I found fascinating and wanted to share it with you.  This is a story about a dog who listens as children read out loud.  It's a new program in our school district and I'm proud that our district is using this innovative program to help students learn. Animals are so loving, caring and accepting, and the students love to have someone that they can read to and to be loved unconditionally.
