SOL 17/31 - Reflecting on a question I've recently been asked

Several times for the past couple of weeks, I've been asked the same question:

"Do you miss your old home?"

We moved last summer and have settled into our new house and made it our home, but to answer the question...

Yes, there are things I miss, but ....

I miss the logs and coziness they created,

but, I don't miss keeping them dust free
but, we're adding some wood to several walls in our new house.

I miss the fireplace and enjoying a fire,
but, I don't miss waking up in the middle of the night to keep the fire burning, or cleaning out the
     ashes every day
but, I now enjoy a gas fireplace that creates the ambiance of a real fire without the mess.

I miss my kitchen layout and the Hickory cabinets,
but, I now have a beautiful kitchen that is functional and modern.

I miss the loft where I could spread out all of my crafts
but, it was open to the great room and could be noisey
but, I now have a craft room all to myself where I can close the door and enjoy my peace and
           quiet.

I miss all the dogwood trees that graced our yard each spring and all the huge oaks that gave shade.
but, now I have wide open spaces with some trees and a pond where I watch our swan and
           cows in the backyard.

I miss our neighbors
but, now we have some wonderful neighbors here too, plus we still keep in touch with our old
           neighbors.

Do I miss our old home?  Yes and no.  I loved it (and still do), but now I have a new house that has turned into just what we need and I love it.

Comments

  1. You said it perfectly Judy, any home is perfect if we create memories in it and make it our HOME.

  2. There are always the pluses and minuses of homes. We find new things to love in new places. How nice to have a craft room!

  3. We moved 26 years ago and there are still things we miss about our old place. Would I go back? No. We are well established in our community with neighbors and friends. A house is what you make it.

  4. It sounds like you have a wonderful home in your new house. I don't think I would every get tired of watching the swan.

  5. Perfectly said! There will always be those little unique things that you will miss, but you have the memories and your new home with its own unique qualities. Great answer to what could be a simple response.

  6. There are a couple of things I miss about my old home, but you've written it very well, pros and cons, and the real value is who is in it. I'm glad you wrote this, Judy. Makes me think about my changes, too.

  7. Some people don't get to be in homes long enough to consider if they miss them so I love that I have that in my life. We lived in a home for 25 years and moved to a condo 7 years ago. Yes, there are things I miss.

  8. I like how you are able to see the positives in both homes. Like your children - different but both your favorite :)
