SOL 22/31 - Shopping with almost 6 year olds

Yesterday, Michelle, Grandpa and I took the girls to Carter's to look for bathing suits.  M said we HAD to go to Carter's because they were having a SALE.  Now how many  almost six year old's know what that means.  But M was so excited because they needed new bathing suits.  P was okay with the idea, but wasn't much into shopping.

We strolled thru the store, looking at this.  "Oh, look at this dress, Grandma."  "I just LOVE this one."
We arrived at the swimsuit rack and looked at all the beautiful, colorful swimsuits.  Some one piece - Mommy reminded the girls that probably wasn't a good idea.  We looked at the two piece, some with sleeves, some with straps, ruffles on the butt, hearts, dolphins, butterflies, endless choices.  We pulled out two possibilities.  M LOVED this one, P ADORED that one.  M's solution - we can get both (meaning two of each).

One problem - there was only one size 7 of each choice.  That is a BIG problem, since they decided several years ago that they wanted to dress alike - all the way down to panties and socks.  After several minutes of reasoning (at least Mommy tried), we bought both of the suits - just to try on to see which they liked best and then we would go to another Carter's store to hopefully find the suit of choice.

Our next stop was at Costco and there in the swimsuit aisle, was the PERFECT suit - the right colors (purple of course) and two of the same size.  Smiles abounded and all was well with the world - at least for a few minutes.

I can vaguely remember what it was like being a mother of one six year old little girl, but I didn't remember how adamant and insistent six year olds can be.  When did they start be fashionistas at almost six?  Oh, Michelle, I do not envy your shopping days as they get older!

  1. Cute slice! I can sense your little bit of amused frustration overshadowed by how much you adore the girls. Glad you finally found "the one." This reminded me of all the fun shopping trips I used to take with my mom and Grandma when I was a little girl and the ones I look forward to with my mom and little girl soon.

  2. Ha! I briefly mentioned our shopping trip in my slice today too ... wondering about the future shopping disagreements we will have. Oh it will be fun! Remind of this day and we can laugh about it, right? It was an adventure!

  3. Thank you Costco! What fun to be in on the shopping for suits. Yes, Michelle will have her hands full.

  4. I remember my own days of shopping with my daughter, fun early, not so fun as a young teen. Now I take the granddaughters separately & that works out better. They (just two years apart) also like to dress alike, but it isn't always easy to find the right sizes as you said. Glad Costco came to the rescue!

  5. I love this! I love that they have their own ideas and feelings . . .I love the independence! Almost 6 year olds, they can be so fun!!!!

  6. What a fun post. I can't imagine shopping with almost six-year olds. Glad Costco had two of the perfect suit in the same size.
