March SOL 28/31 - Waiting and Frustration

I don't know if it's just the area we live in or if it happens all over.  Since we've moved to the Ozarks, we've had some frustrating situations.

After we bought property here and still living in Illinois, we contracted with an excavator who was suppose to clear the property so that we could begin erecting our pole barn.  He said, "No problem.  I'll have it complete by the time you get down here to do the concrete work."  Hubby arrived with a crew to pour the foundation and floor, but the area remained as it was when he had talked with the excavator.  He tried to contact him, but couldn't get a hold of him.  So he found someone else to do the work quickly.

When we were building our log home 18 years ago, we ordered many different components for the house.  Namely, we had ordered some lights.  They had to be ordered for somewhere else.  We waited and waited.  No call, no lights.  So we contacted them after six weeks and they said, "Oh there was a bad storm and we couldn't get the parts.  They should be coming in 4-6 weeks."  I guess the thing that bothered me more than anything was not contacting us to let us know of the hold up.

We've had many other experiences like this over the years and now once again we wait.  We have asked two different contractors for estimates to redo our front porch.  One was here two months ago,  We called and he said, "Oh, I've been really busy, but I'll work on this weekend and get back to you next week."  That was two weeks ago.  Last week we had someone else measure and he said that he would have it in a couple of days.  Still we wait.  Do we call and remind him?  Do we find someone else?  Where is the common courtesy to call and say, I'm working on it and will have it by...?

Oh, the waiting game continues along with the frustration.  Fortunately, it's not something we HAVE to have completed, but something we WANT to do,

  1. Oh yes, those are frustrating situations! I'm currently frustrated by people who don't return my emails for meetings that I'm trying to set up. Argh. ~JudyK

  2. So far, I've had good luck with workmen, but really at my new place, have had no 'big' jobs. At our old home of many years, we had those things happen particularly with re-modeling things. Argh, I wish you well, Judy!

  3. Nothing irritates me more than contractors not returning my calls. If you can't or don't want to do something for me fine. Just let me know so I can get someone else and not sit here wondering if you even got my message.

  4. That is a frustrating situation. What makes it worse is when there are few choices for workers. I guess that's why they think they can take their time getting back to you.

  5. That is so frustrating!! What makes me mad about those situations is that you are providing them business - you think they'd be happy about that and in return provide you quality service!

  6. Waiting is so frustrating - especially when it's for something you really want finished!

  7. All new time frame living down there ... it's hard to wait and wonder. But it seems as if this is the norm! Seems strange though if they want the business and to get paid and good reviews for future work. Hmmm ... something we'll never understand I guess.
