Tuesday SOL 6/20/17 - Thoughts on Father's Day
On a Father's Day 14 years ago (6/15/03), my Dad went to heaven to spend his eternal life with my Mom. What a glorious feeling that is - knowing that he is at home and enjoying himself! So on the anniversary of his death and Father's Day, I remember my special Dad.
He was a people person - he loved to chat with everyone he met. I don't think there was ever anyone who he couldn't talk with.
His sense of humor was amazing - he liked to tease, but not to the point of annoyance - he just wanted everyone to be happy.
He was a hard worker - a farmer, a carpenter, a lawn mower, a courier, a crusader of our heavenly Father, a husband, a father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved his family and wanted the best for all us.
He wasn't rich, but always had enough - money wasn't the source of his happiness.
He enjoyed being busy and yet it was always good to find time to relax. He loved watching the Chicago Cubs play and must have been ecstatic when they won the World Series. He loved music and always wanted to play the drums - he had great rhythm, He loved dancing - not the modern way, but waltzing Mom around the dance floor.
And, his smile was infectious - he had a way of making others smile even when they didn't feel like it.
Yes, he was a a very special man in my life and I remember him and all he stood for. I thank him for all that he taught me and shared with me. I miss him and wish I could call him up and tell him "thanks".
Happy Father's Day, Dad - I love you and miss you!

I love hearing about your father, Judy. What a nice post about him. I miss those relatives that I grew up with, am grateful that I had them and have fond memories of them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute to a wonderful father and man.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written. Loving memories.
ReplyDeleteSuch joy in this slice of life. I love this line: "waltzing Mom around the dance floor." It has such movement to it and conveys the deep sense of fun and love. I would have enjoyed meeting your dad.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely memory slice for your dad! GO CUBS!
ReplyDeleteWhat a special slice, Mom! And I learned something new about Grandpa -- I never knew he wanted to play the drums! What an amazing man! And he knows ... he knows how thankful you are for him.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this. I loved learning about your dad through this slice and making many connections to my own dad. Something I miss the most about my dad is his infectious smile and watching him and my mom dance.
