Tuesday SOL 7/11/17 - A wonderful vacation
After eleven days of travel, we arrived safely home yesterday. It was a wonderful trip, filled with lots of sights, enjoying the company of our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters, laughing. relaxing and enjoying several boat rides.
We traveled to Northern Michigan via Indiana covered bridge country, to meet up with Michelle and her family. We wanted to seem some of the covered bridges, but arrived mid afternoon (that darn time zone change) with a storm brewing. We happened upon the Bridgeton Covered Bridge and Mill, just before the sky opened up with a torrential downpour. There was a young couple just leaving and they were giddy beyond compare. I said to the proprietor that they must be newlyweds to which he replied no, but they had asked him to take some picture in front of the bridge and while he was taking the pics, the young man got down on one knee and pulled out a box. She said "yes".
Saturday we were on our way to Harbor Springs, MI to meet up with the kids.
The week began with dinner and a tour of Petoskey. We played miniature golf, the girls drove mini go carts, Grandpa raced Mommy & Daddy and won!
We took in several wineries and breweries. Drove thru the Tunnel of Trees, took tours of Fort Mackinac and the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse. Spent a day on Mackinaw Island. Took is some more wineries. G&G rested while Michelle, Jon and the girls rode bikes. We shopped some, ate a lot and enjoyed being around the girls.
The girls searched for Petoskey stones and found many small ones and lots of other "beautiful" rocks.
Saw some beautiful sunsets and scenery along the way. Took in the Dark Skies (it gets dark really late for us Southerns). The moon was bright in the sky so the stars seemed to take longer to appear. We saw Jupiter and the Big Dipper.
We found a pottery store and watched the potter create a bowl.
Our last day we took the S.S. Badger cruise from Ludington, MI to Manitowac, WI. A delightful 4 hour ferry ride across Lake Michigan. Then headed south to IL to our son's for a day of rest before traveling home.
It was a "joy filled" trip and treasured time to spend with Michelle, Jon and the girls.

I just got back from a vacation, and it was fun to read about your own vacation. It sounds like a wonderful trip! I love going to Michigan.

ReplyDeleteHow lucky you were to catch love in bloom! I've always wanted to take that ferry across Lake Michigan. We love to visit Mackinac Island but it is such a long drive around the lake. I live in Kenosha so you probably drove right past me on your way to Illinois. Yours was a fun slice to read today. Welcome home!
