Tuesday SOL - 9/29/15 - Matching Set

Image
Earlier this month I wrote a slice about not having delivery of all of our bedroom furniture Disappointment .  Well, last week I got THE CALL.  The headboard, footboard and frame had arrived.  When could they deliver it?  Immediately, I asked?  Well, how about the next day?  No problem. We scheduled it for after 2:00 p.m.  I was at my volunteer job and Hubby was getting ready to go to the gun club for his afternoon shoot.  It was a little after 1:00.  The doorbell rang, the phone rang, Hubby in the shower.  He quickly got out of the shower, ran to the front door as the delivery guys were closing up the truck. They were early - imagine that. They quickly moved the mattress and box, set up the headboard and frame.  A total completion to the bedroom furniture.  Hubby had the bed all made except for the quilt, which we quickly added and Voila .  Smiles abounded our faces and we are so enjoying it.

Tuesday SOL 9/22/15 - Mission/Build Trip Fast Approaching

Image
Hard to believe that a year has almost passed since I was last in Guatemala.  Even harder to believe is that a week from Saturday, I will again be leaving the Ozarks and heading to Guatemala for another - my 3rd - mission/build trip. This time we are heading to San Marcos, which is located in the northwest corner of Guatemala.  We won't know what we are doing until we get there.  We have 12 people going with us (including me and my brother).  Half of our team are going for the third time.  Needless to say, "we're hooked" on helping Habitat build houses and make things better for those less fortunate. After last year's trip, my brother and I both decided that was our last time, but the trip was announced and God pushed us to go and help.  We'll be working with the same Habitat coordinator - Fredy is one of those special people.  A native Guatemalan, who truly loves what he's doing and shows God's love in everything is does and says.  I'm a...

Tuesday SOL 9/15/15 - Fall is fast approaching

Image
Ahh, a breathe of freshness is filling the air The morning dew lingers longer As the temperature stay cool Until the sun rises high in the sky. Open the windows Turn off the air conditioning Snuggle in the warmth of the bed Take a long walk Watch the leaves change colors And fall softly to the ground The flowers are fading, but The mums and black eyed susans spread their sunshine throughout the land. Fall is fast approaching A time of reaping and rejoicing A time to take a deep breathe A time to reflect on the summer that is past A time to look forward A time to be thankful for all God's blessings.

SOL 9/8/15 - We can choose to complain or look at things differently & rejoice

Since we moved into a smaller home, some of our furniture just didn't fit or we just needed new.  We've been married for 45 years and have never had a matching bedroom set.  It's always been piecemeal, hand me downs.  So we decided this was the time - a new bedroom set for our new home. I knew in my mind what I wanted.  We only have one furniture store in town that sells quality furniture.  We shopped, didn't see anything on the showroom floor.  The clerk pointed us to a huge table piled high with books and more books of different furniture manufacturers.  I told her what I was looking for and she pulled out several books with the mission style furniture. We paged thru the first book - nothing.  The second book - a possibility.  The third book - ahhh this is what I want.  Can we get a king size head/foot board?  She checked and the answer was yes.  Let's write it up and get an order in.  It should be here in 6-8 week...

SOL 9/1/15 - A small project turned into a BIG project

Image
Slowly we are settling in to our new home.  Things are put away, pictures are being hung and it's beginning to look lived in, not just thrown together. This past week the temperatures finally cooled off and we could start working on hubby's garage.  Shelves and workbenches were built, tools were put in handy places, boxes were opened and stored.  Hubby is doing what I did in my craft room.  Put things "some place" and then move them to a workable space.  I think that will go on for some time. I started to straighten out the storage room only to find out that the lights didn't work.  So hubby got the ladder, took down the globe and replaced the bulb.  Still no lights.  "Did you check the light bulbs to make sure they work?"  Hmmmm. Hubby has some experience with electricity as he wired our log home.  So we found the breaker and turned it off, he looked at the wiring at the light socket and more Hmmm's.  He undid the switch pl...
